Bridgeport Boosts Community Relations, Security With New Police Post BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Mayor Joe Ganim and Police Chief Armando Perez officially reactivated a police post at P.T. Barnum Apartments Thursday, in a months-long plan to provide more visible community policing in strategic locations across the city. Bridgeport Police: Family Of Four Arrested In Fatal July Shooting BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Four members of a Bridgeport family have been arrested in a July dispute that led to the fatal shooting of their neighbor, police said. Waldo “Abel” Gonzalez, 43, was charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a pistol without a permit and risk of injury to a minor in the death of Ronald Simmons, police said. Simmons, 44, was shot at the corner of Norman Street and Freemont Avenue after a July 2 dispute with the suspect and his family, police said. The suspect is being held on $1 million bond. Shelton Police Release Photo of Suspect In Purse Theft SHELTON, Conn. — Police are searching for a woman who stole a Shelton woman’s purse and racked up more than $4,000 in charges to her credit card. On July 27, a 64-year-old woman was shopping at T.J. Maxx on Bridgeport Avenue, when another woman asked her to try on some clothing because she had the same figure of the person for whom the second woman was shopping, police said. The victim agreed and, when she came out of the dressing room, she found her purse was missing from her shopping cart, police said.
