He was born in Jersey City, raised in the Radburn section of Fair Lawn and settled in Hackensack. A veteran of the US Army, he served in the 1st Calvary Division during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. He was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking and Seton Hall University and was employed for 33 years by Oritani Savings & Loan, where he became vice president. He served in the Greek military, where he was awarded multiple citations, including one for marksmanship, and received an honorable discharge.
