RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Maretta (Metta) Callahan, a resident of Rhinebeck, died Friday, April 22. She was 56.She graduated from Rhinebeck High School in 1977 and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from SUNY Albany.
After living in Turkey, Germany, and Spain for several years, she settled in New York City and then returned to Rhinebeck with her family in 2007. She taught English as a second language and edited ESL instructional materials in countries all over the world. She loved people and found great joy exploring new cultures, and learning new languages.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 27, at 1 p.m., at the Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State St., Spring Valley. Interment to follow at Beth El Cemetery, 735 Forest Ave., Paramus, N.J.

MAHWAH, N.J. -- Cornelius Verblaauw, a resident of Mahwah, died Sunday, April 24. He was 79.Born in Paterson, he lived in Mahwah for the past 26 years.
He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church, in Clifton, N.J. Before his retirement in 2001, he was a carpenter who owned and operated C. Verblaauw and Sons in Mahwah.
He is survived by his children Jane and her husband, Russ Easterhoff of Oakland, Bruce and his wife, Judy Verblaauw of Mahwah; grandchildren Brenda McKeon, Kimberly Katinsky, Stephen Easterhoff, Ashley Helbig, and Allison Verblaauw; and six great grandchildren.

GARNERVILLE, N.Y. – Dennis Patrick Martin, a resident of Garnerville, died Wednesday, April 20. He was 78.
He was born in 1938 to Peter and Bridget (Mitchell) Martin in the Bronx. He graduate from Cardinal Hayes High, Bronx, N.Y. in 1956 and joined the FDNY in 1962.
He was a retired Deputy Chief with FDNY, serving 33 years. He was a proud member of the UFOA, FDNY Emerald Society, FDNY Holy Name Society, the North Rockland Social Club, and Haverstraw Elks. He loved helping others and was a volunteer with Hospice and Meals on Wheels in New York and in Naples, Florida.

He is survived by his son Tyler; siblings Frank, Justine and Margaret; sister-in-law Maureen; niece Caitlin; aunt Lucille; and many cousins and close friends.
