Top Students Honored By Our Lady Of Lourdes High School Poughkeepsie
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Students at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie were honored at an awards ceremony on May 13.The Academic Awards Ceremony honored top students who achieved honor roll, dean's list and/or Principal's Club. At least 60 percent of the student body earned honor roll status and 19 percent were admitted to the Principal’s Club, which is for those who achieved dean’s list in the first three quarters of the 2015-16 school year.

Garfield Offers Wellness Walk
GARFIELD, N.J. -- A wellness walk is planned Tuesday in Garfield. The walk is hosted by the Garfield Health Department. Everyone will meet at 10 a.m. at the health department, 60 Elizabeth St. and walk at 20th Century Park, Elizabeth Street and Gaston Avenue. Hospice Of Westchester Releases Butterflies In Rye
RYE, N.Y. -- Butterflies were released during remembrance ceremonies at the Wainwright House in Rye on Sunday, May 15.Hospice of Westchester (HOW) hosted its sixth annual Memorial Butterfly Release. Two remembrance ceremonies were held, each concluding with the release of Monarch butterflies, which are often viewed as symbols of loved ones who have passed away. Hundreds of families, friends and community members participated. Wayne Accepting Lifeguard Applications
WAYNE, N.J. -- Applications for lifeguards and gate guards are being accepted by the Wayne Department of Parks and Recreation. Help is needed at the James Roe Pool and Kilroy Lake. All applicants are expected to work from Memorial Day through Labor Day. All employees under the age of 18 are required to secure working papers from their schools. All lifeguards are responsible to be sure their certifications are up to date prior to the start of employment. GARFIELD, N.J. -- A scholarship fundraiser to benefit Garfield High School students takes place Wednesday, June 1 at Blackjack Mulligan's Public House. The 4th Annual Coach Jack McLaughlin-Ellis Pallo-Joseph Z. Students Master New Tech Skills At Yorktown Workshop
YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Students at The Tech Center recently participated in a pilot workshop on the campus of Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES. The workshop, titled Xtreme iLab, is The Tech Center’s own take on the Maker-Space style of learning that is being piloted in forward-thinking school districts across the country. The idea is to encourage creative group problem solving and explore ways to help students use their own skills collaboratively to achieve fresh results. Red Hook Student Eliminated After National Spelling Bee Semifinals
RED HOOK, N.Y. -- An eighth-grader at Linden Avenue Middle School in Red Hook made it to the Scripps National Spelling Bee but was eliminated in Thursday's semifinals, reports Poughkeepsie Journal. Alexandra B. Snyder was one of 284 participants age 6-14 from 50 states who traveled to National Harbor, MD for the competition, reports Poughkeepsie Journal. Westport Longshore Pool Opens For the Season
WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Longshore swimming pool will open Saturday, on schedule, the Westport Parks and Recreation Department announced. The holiday weekend schedule May 28-30 is 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Click here for full summer operating hours. POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A basketball team made up of former Vassar College athletes needs votes to make it into a tournament.The Vassar Roses is made up of eight former Vassar athletes who hope to be in The Basketball Tournament. The tournament is an open invitation, winner-take-all 64-team event with a $2 million grand prize. There will current pros and former NBA players on the roster of The Basketball Tournament. East Fishkill Officer Rescues Fawn Trapped In pool
EAST FISHKILL, N.Y. -- A baby deer that apparently squeezed through a gate and wandered into a pool, was carried to safety by an East Fishkill police officer.Officer Ralph Bertoldi came to the rescue of a young fawn after the animal became trapped in a resident's pool enclosure. The young deer was carried out and given some water. It then ran off to the woods where it's expected that the fawn reunited with its mother.
