Son Pens Song On Parents' Murders In Fairfield Store -- 11 Years Later BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — It came to Eric Donnelly in the middle of the night, just as suddenly and unpredictably as when he learned of the death of his parents at the hands of a gunman in their Fairfield jewelry store. “Somewhere in America, a phone is about to ring. Nothing can prepare you for the news it’s going to bring.” So begins the chorus of “Somewhere in America,” the song it’s taken Donnelly, guitarist for The Alternate Routes, 11 years to write. A starkly profound tune, the song recalls the 2005 murders of Tim and Kim Donnelly and speaks to the current debate on gun control and viole…

Trainer Gets A Kick Teaching Martial Arts In Stratford WESTPORT, Conn. — When Chris Sansonetti was a teenager, he and his friends would often work on their martial arts skills after school.  “We’d practice in our backyards and get black and blues,” the Milford resident said, laughing. He got a little more serious about the practice at Central Connecticut State University, where he was a member of the karate team. So it comes as no surprise that he’s managed to make a living passing on his know-how to hundreds of students over the past 14 years and he’s bringing his skills to Fitness Works of Westport. Beginning September 6, Sansonetti, ow…

Bridgeport Eatery Fulfills Lifelong Dream For Home Cook BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The fates seemed to be conspiring with Leisha Young a couple of years ago. First, the former Talbot’s training store manager got laid off from her job. Then she noticed one of her favorite Bridgeport shops, Melt Market + Café, had closed its doors. While others might see both as negative, Young saw an opportunity to live out a lifelong dream. And thus Leisha’s Bakeria was born. “I’ve entertained at home since I was a little girl. So why not?” said Young, who took over the Lafayette Circle storefront where Melt had been.  A bright, airy space, located on the edge of…
