Gardeners Can Learn About Japanese Knotweed In Pound Ridge Discussion
POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- The Pound Ridge Library will host a discussion on Japanese knotweed on Tuesday, June 28. Japanese knotweed, or Fallopia japonica is an invasive species that can be difficult to remove. The Invasives Project-Pound Ridge's event will cover issues and methods for addressing the species. Yonkers Philharmonic Performing Independence Day Concert
YONKERS, N.Y. -- The Yonkers Philharmonic will perform a free Independence Day concert at Untermyer Park on Saturday, July 2. Conductor Tong Chen will lead the performance of patriotic music. In the event of inclement weather, he concert will be moved to Saunders High School. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs and picnic under the stars. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Sleepy Hollow HS Students Create Diversity Mural
SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Sleepy Hollow High School students recently painted a diversity mural, which is on display at the school. Art department chair Angela Langston conceived the idea of superimposing the flags of students' native countries over the U.S. flag. Painter and digital artist James Kimak worked with students in Kristen Dreher's studio art class on the mural. Emergency Responders Extricate Driver From Overturned SUV In New City
NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Emergency responders responded to an extrication call on Central Highway, north of South Mountain Road, in New City on Saturday evening. New City Fire members removed the driver from an overturned SUV for transport to the hospital. They worked alongside Rockland paramedics, New City Volunteer Ambulance Corps, West Nyack firefighters and Clarkstown Police.

Ramapo Police Issue Citations During Vehicle Inspection Checkpoint
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Members of the Ramapo Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit conducted a checkpoint in the Hillcrest area on Thursday. Ten vehicles were inspected, and numerous violations were cited. None of the vehicles needed to be taken out of service.
