GARFIELD, N.J. -- Jack Bernice, a resident of Garfield and formerly of Lodi and Cape Coral, Fla., died Saturday, April 16. He was 97.He was born in Garfield to the late Salvatore and Carmela Pernice.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1941-45 and was a charter member of the V.F.W. Post in Lodi and a member of the Fifth Armored Division Association. Before retiring, he was a carpenter for the Carpenter’s Union Local 15 in Hackensack.

PARAMUS, N.J. – Mary De Mott, a resident of Middletown, N.Y. and formerly of Paramus, New York City, Raleigh, N.C. and Binghamton, N.Y., died Saturday, April 16. She was 85.
Before retiring, she worked for Sterns in Paramus as a telephone operator.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Catherine M. Gorman, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died Thursday, April 14. She was 87.
She was born on Aug.12, 1928, in the Bronx to the late Peter B. Cody and Agnes Newcombe.
She was a secretary for her brother while he was the pastor at St. Peter’s Church. She then retired and enjoyed working at St. Peter’s Cemetery alongside her daughter assisting the community with genealogy.
She was predeceased by her husband, John T. Gorman; her brothers, William Cody and Rev. Peter J. Cody.

She was born on June 12, 1928, in Poughkeepsie to Leonard and Myrtle Travis. She graduated from Arlington schools, the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corps RN at Westchester School of Nursing in Valhalla and Cushman Indian Hospital in Tacoma, Wash. She worked in private-duty nursing in Westchester County, as an insurance broker in Salt Point, N.Y., on the board of directors for Heritage Mutual Insurance Co. in Pine Plains and as a multimedia artist in Pleasant Valley.

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Casandra Green, a resident of Wappingers Falls, died Wednesday, April 13. She was 33.She was born Dec.12, 1983.

NYACK, N.Y. – Anna Theresa Hennion, a resident of Nyack, died Tuesday, April 12. She was 95.
She was born on July 8, 1920, in the Catskills and moved to Nyack when she was a young girl.
She is survived by four children, Pat (Lynn), John (Mark), Roseanne (Arthur) and Mary (Geoff); five grandchildren, Mallory, Emma, Hayley, Patrick and John; her sister Kathleen Sinclair; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, April 16, at St. Ann's Church, 16 Jefferson St., Nyack. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.

MAHWAH, N.J. – Dorothy Streaser Montero, a resident of Mahwah, died Wednesday, April 13. She was 90.
She was born in Morningside Heights, N.Y. and lived in Fort Lee and Palisades Park before moving to Mahwah to be closer to family. In her earlier years, she was a bookkeeper in the banking industry, followed by working for years at the Savarin plant in New Jersey. After moving to Norfolk Village in Mahwah, she became a member of the Mahwah Senior Citizen Center and Senior Club.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. – Nicolae Ion Velicu, a resident of Ridgewood, died Wednesday, April 13. He was 83.
He was born May 1,1932, in Romania. In his native country, at a young age, he become a renowned skydiver and aviator. Upon completing 2000 jumps, he earned the sport of skydiving’s most prestigious award. In 1962, he participated in the Sixth World Championship of Parachuting in Orange, Mass., representing Romania.
