Fairfield Police: Cameras, Alarm Off During Sandwich Shop Break-in FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The manager of a Fairfield sandwich shop, which happened to have its surveillance cameras and burglar alarm off overnight, reported a break-in Monday morning, police said. Someone made off with $2,764 in cash from the Jersey Mike’s on Black Rock Turnpike, where the manager came in to find the front glass door shattered and the door pried open, police said. The burglar stole a safe containing two days’ worth of cash deposits, as well as a cash drawer that requires an electronic code to remove it from the register, police said. Bridgeport Man Arrested In Disturbance at Fairfield Beer Fest FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was arrested Sunday after he caused a disturbance at a Post Road restaurant's beer fest, ducked into another restaurant for no apparent reason and then refused police commands outside, police said. Lawrence Kendricks, 27, of Capital Avenue, was charged with interfering with an officer and breach of peace around 5:15 p.m., police said. Fairfield Police: Failed Diversion Spells Shoplifting Arrests for Three FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A trio of would-be shoplifters, including a convicted felon with 32 prior arrests, was arrested Saturday when an attempt to create a diversion failed to stop security at a Villa Avenue supermarket from noticing a man leaving the store with a cart full of merchandise, police said. Police: Westport K-9 Finds Drugs, Grinder In Darien Man's Car WESTPORT, Conn. — A Darien driver faces drug charges after he was stopped by Westport Police Saturday night on Post Road East, police said. Mark Smeland, 23, of Oak Crest, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after K-9 Atlas detected about 16 grams of marijuana in a backpack in his car, police said. Officers also found a grinder, police said. Smeland was held on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on May 17, police said.
