Christmas Tree Ceremony Lights Up Bridgeport's Black Rock Neighborhood BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — With the flick of a switch and cheers from the hundreds gathered in St. Ann Field, the Black Rock Community Council lit its annual Christmas tree Sunday evening. Bridgeport Celebrates As New Mayor Joe Ganim Takes Oath Of Office BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — It's official: Joe Ganim is the new mayor of Bridgeport. The Democrat, who was the winner of last month's seven-way election, was officially sworn in on a rainy Tuesday evening in a ceremony at the Klein. It's a redemption for Ganim, who previously served five terms as mayor. But his time at City Hall came to an end when he was convicted of federal corruption charges and spent seven years in prison.
