Bridgeport Mom Sells Tasty Treats And More At Southport Farmers Market Bridgeport Mom Sells Tasty Treats And More At Southport Farmers Market
Bridgeport Mom Sells Tasty Treats And More At Southport Farmers Market FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Lynne Interlandi says there’s one reason she often finds herself standing behind a table of fresh cheeses, salsa, pottery and woven goods at the Winter Farmers Market of Southport. “I do this because I’m the best mother in the world,” she said with a smile. And that’s because many of the fresh products she sells are created by her son, Sebastian, at Creative Shepherd Farm, his home in upstate New York. A former teacher raised in Bridgeport, Sebastian Interlandi moved to tiny Ava, N.Y., a few years ago to live out his dream of raising sheep, tending vegetables and making…

Fairfield Woman Committed Tuesday After Early Morning Knife Incident Fairfield Woman Committed Tuesday After Early Morning Knife Incident
Fairfield Woman Committed Tuesday After Early Morning Knife Incident FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield woman was arrested and given an emergency hospital committal Tuesday after she apparently mistook her mother-in-law for an intruder, slapping her and coming after her with a chef’s knife, police said. The 35-year-old Pheasant Lane woman asked police who arrived at the scene, “What do I have to do to hurt someone and not get shot by police?” No one was injured in the 6:45 a.m. incident, which was eerily similar to the domestic tragedy that occurred exactly a week ago at a home on nearby Mountain Laurel Road. Christopher Andrews, who allegedly attacked his wife …

Bridgeport's Norden Club Donates $8,000 to Black Rock Food Pantry BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The Black Rock Food Pantry may be small, but organizers estimate it provides the ingredients for a staggering 100,000 meals for Bridgeport families in need each year. And that figure is made possible, in large part, by a fundraiser that has become a heartwarming tradition at the neighborhood’s S.S. Norden Club. This month, the 114-year-old social club presented the pantry’s leaders with a check for $8,000 from its annual Christmas ornament campaign organized by club President Ray Corby. “To be very frank, this is a major help,” said pantry President Bernie Lee. “This h…

Artist Turns Beaded Bracelets Into Big Business In Westport WESTPORT, Conn. — A couple of years ago, Patty Robinson took a job in a bead store and began making her own bracelets for fun. “I would wear them out and people would ask if they could buy them,” the Westport woman said. “So I thought, ‘Hmmm…’” And thus was born Blue Lotus Bracelets, a business Robinson runs out of her Westport home through a Facebook page, an Etsy shop and stints at local farmers markets. Robinson uses semi-precious stones, including rose quartz, Labradorite and turquoise, and fashions them into attractive bracelets, often including little charms, such as buddhas, elephan…
Shelton Glass Artist Creates On The Cutting Edge Shelton Glass Artist Creates On The Cutting Edge
Shelton Glass Artist Creates On The Cutting Edge SHELTON, Conn. — Michael Skrtic, owner of The Glass Source in Shelton, sees himself as part artist, part modern-day Sherlock Holmes. The intricate glass restoration and preservation projects that make up most of his business mean intense hours — sometimes days — spent trying to understand each unique window, lampshade or panel before his work even begins. “There’s a lot of detective work to it, trying to find out what they had done to create something 100 years ago,” he said. “I like the mystery of it.” Skrtic likes almost everything about his career in glass, which he started 22 years ag…
