To the Editor: I am a retired teacher and author of the book, From Losers to Winners. The book describes 26 formerly incorrigible high school students who, in combination with teachers who cared, went on successful careers and became positive contributors to society. I am now acquainted with a person who, at one time, could have qualified as the top incorrigible. This person maintains how teacher concern truly helped him change his ways, and not only se…

High Tide Hampers Access To Westport's Burying Hill Beach WESTPORT, Conn. -- Higher-than-normal afternoon tides made the access road to Burying Hill Beach nearly impassable Friday afternoon.  Cars had to drive through the parking lot around the guard gate to get through and some were left at a standstill as waters turned the two-lane road into a one-way lane. Strong winds and drizzle were expected to linger overnight into Saturday across much of Fairfield County.

Letter to the editor: I have met Cristin McCarthy-Vahey several times and I personally think she is a very nice person. The problem is that the Democratic policies she supports in Hartford are destroying business in Connecticut. In 2014 she ran on a platform of creating jobs in our state, however, the policies she and Gov. Dannel Malloy support in Hartford are chasing businesses and jobs out of Connecticut. She has voted to fund the last two budgets inc…

Fishy School Project Makes A Splash In Bridgeport BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Twelve-year-old James Dauber buckled himself into a pair of waders Thursday morning and strode into a shallow section of the Pequonnock River at Beardsley Park in Bridgeport. “I love fishing,” the Bridge Academy student said. “I want to make my own TV show about fishing.” But the fishing trip was a little different than most. Instead of casting a line into the gentle waters, he was helping to release young brook trout he and his friends have raised at their schools. The release was the culmination of Trout in the Classroom, an innovative conservation program in which m…

To the Editor: We need change for a successful future! I believe Cristin McCarthy Vahey has been a responsible public representative. My family really appreciated her work here in Fairfield while a member of the RTM. Her work with the BOE was especially in line with our support. I say “has,” because as a state Representative, Cristin has supported Governor Malloy on important issues that have hurt businesses in Connecticut and likely encouraged them to…

Fairfield Letter: Vote Neuberger on Nov. 8 FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Please send your letter to fairfield@dailyvoice.com. To the editor: Gov. Dannel Malloy and the Democratic controlled legislator have taken Connecticut down a path toward a fiscal disaster.  They have imposed the second-largest tax increase in CT history. In 2015, they proposed an 11 percent spending growth over two years.  They borrowed $750 million for cash flow. They delayed $400 million in debt payments. They targeted hospitals to raise $500 million in tax revenue. They moved $3 billion from Medicare …
