Please send your letter to fairfield@dailyvoice.com. To the editor: Under Governor Malloy, Connecticut has sunk to incredible lows:  Brietbart News reports that Connecticut ranks 50th in its fiscal health with a total debt of $20.88 billion and another $83.31 billion in unfunded pensions.  Mercatus stated that Connecticut’s fiscal state is poor across all categories that cover cash on hand, budgeting, long-term planning, citizen services and trust fund solvency.  The Yankee Institute for Publi…

Stratford Mayor Puts On The Pink At Happy Hour To Help Fight Cancer FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The bartenders donned pink aprons, a pink Maserati was parked outside and guests sported salmon- and neon-hued ties and jaunty scarves Tuesday at the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink Happy Hour for Hope. Fairfield Letter: Kupchick Will Stand Up To Tax-And-Spend Policies FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Daily Voice will accept signed, original letters to the editor until Nov. 1. Please send your letter to fairfield@dailyvoice.com. To the Editor, I’ve had enough when it comes to the Democratic leadership of this state. They are incompetent and refuse to accept the reality that our state is in serious trouble financially. Even with the two highest tax increases in state history in 2011 and 2015, our state is still struggling to get our economy back on track, and I have no doubt that if Democrats retain the majority in the legislature after the election, they will tu…

Fairfield Letter: Support Neuberger For State Representative FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Please send your letter to fairfield@dailyvoice.com. To the Editor: There is little doubt that Connecticut has been heading in the wrong direction over the past few years. We rank at or near the bottom in so many categories. Businesses and retirees are fleeing Connecticut at a record rate. Yet, some of our politicians in Hartford don’t seem to get the message.  Unfortunately, Cristin McCarthy Vahey is one of those people. She has voted with the Governor and democratic leaders 98 percent of the time over the las…

Fairfield Letter: Hwang Is 'Industrious, Wise And Dedicated' FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Please send your letter to fairfield@dailyvoice.com. To the Editor: We voters find ourselves in very tumultuous times! The stakes are higher than ever. The outcome for us, our children and our grandchildren is more perilous than ever. Meanwhile, our political candidates seem more interested in confusing us with emotional issues than comforting us with their experience and wisdom. Fortunately for the people of the 28th Senatorial District and the State of Connecticut, we have the industrious, wise and dedicated …

Basement 'Dinosaur' In Westport Bests Pack In Oldest Boiler Contest WESTPORT, Conn. — When the boiler in Anne and Willie Salmond’s Westport home was “born,” Warren G. Harding had just settled into the White House and Americans were dancing the Charleston to “Ain’t We Got Fun?” So it was no surprise the St. John Place couple bested about 120 entries in Gault Family Companies’ 2016 Oldest Boiler Contest, winning a whole new system to replace their 95-year-old workhorse just in time for Thursday’s chilly sleet. “We’ve never really won anything big in our lives,” said Anne, who’s lived in the home since 1984. “This is especially nice as winter’s coming.” Sam G…
Bigelow Family's Tea Business Is Steeped In Tradition In Fairfield Bigelow Family's Tea Business Is Steeped In Tradition In Fairfield
Bigelow Family's Tea Business Is Steeped In Tradition In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — It was 1945 when interior designer-turned-entrepreneur Ruth Campbell Bigelow found an early Colonial recipe for tea and decided to try her hand at brewing it. After weeks of trial and error in her New York City brownstone, she took her unusual blend of black tea, orange rind and sweet spices to a party for some of her lady friends to sample. Returning home, she proudly told her family, “It was the source of constant comment.”
And thus, one of the country’s best-selling specialty teas — and a business empire that has now spanned three generations — was born. On Thursday…

Fairfield Letter: McCarthy Vahey 'Shows Up For Important Votes' Fairfield Letter: McCarthy Vahey 'Shows Up For Important Votes'
Fairfield Letter: McCarthy Vahey 'Shows Up For Important Votes' FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Please send your letter to fairfield@dailyvoice.com. To the Editor: I am supporting Cristin McCarthy Vahey for re-election to the 133rd State Representative District, and I encourage voters to cast their ballot for Cristin. Cristin is worthy of our accolades for the outstanding service she has provided to our District. Mr. Neuberger, her opponent, talks a good deal about out-of-control budgets, and suggests that he is the better person to represent the 133rd in State budget hearings. He also claims to be a str…

Letter: Neuberger A Fresh Choice For Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Please send your letter to fairfield@dailyvoice.com. To the Editor, As a member of the Board of Selectmen, Cristin Vahey helped to continue the increased wasteful spending in the Fairfield school system, causing Fairfield property owners to be burdened with ever-increasing taxes. As a selectperson, she rubber-stamped whatever Selectman Tetreau asked of her. Two years ago, however, Cristin Vahey left the position as second selectperson, and promised that, as a State Representative, she would help bring ne…
