Eat And Run: Food Trucks May Dish Up Fare At Fairfield Metro Train Station FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Six food truck merchants showed up at the Fairfield Metro train station Wednesday, eager to hear more about the state’s proposal to allow one or more vendors to operate in the parking lot beginning this spring. “I think it would be great,” said Aaron Hagel of Best Food Fast, which serves up a full line of goodies in spots across Bridgeport. “We’re definitely excited about it. The demand is here.” Commuters have been asking for simple amenities, such as food options and bathrooms, since planned retail development around the 5-year-old station has not materialized, said Cra…

Save Our Stepney Task Force Takes Art To Heart In Monroe's Outdoor Display MONROE, Conn. — Residents of Monroe’s Stepney section are feeling the love, due to a colorful art installation on the village’s picturesque green. Monroe’s Caitlin Loehr created the two entwined hearts shot through with Cupid’s arrow and the special Valentine message, “From Stepney With Love.” Last Thursday’s snowstorm felled the message, but the hearts and a series of 350 smaller hand-cut hearts strung from one end of the green to the other are still standing strong. “I wanted to make art that would spread joy to everyone who sees it,” said Loehr, a visual merchandising designer. This is…

McArdle resigned effective Dec. 1. The board voted to fill the vacancy with Ed Bateson, a Republican, in December. First State Legal Incubator Helps Greater Bridgeport Abuse Victims BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The U.S. Department of Justice says domestic abuse victims return to their abusers an estimated seven to 10 times before making a clean break, in large part because they lack the legal support to be able to leave. The Center for Family Justice (CFJ) hopes to put a dent in that number this week by opening Connecticut’s first legal incubator. The Justice Legal Center will provide low- to no-cost legal assistance through five attorneys now practicing at its Fairfield Avenue headquarters. “The legal piece is really critical,” said the state’s First Lady Cathy Malloy, who att…
