Vera Sarokwash, 93, of Oradell
ORADELL, N.J. -- Vera Sarokwash, of Oradell, died on Jan. 22. She was 93. Before she retired, Sarokwash was a personal assistant of 40 years for the Community Service Society, in New York City.
She also belonged to VFW Post 4290, in Oradell.
Sarokwash was predeceased by her husband, Peter.
Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., in Oradell, followed by a 12:30 p.m. funeral mass at St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, in Jackson. Interment will follow at St. Vladimir's Cemetery, in Jackson.

Robert Bewighouse, 88, Longtime Rutherford Resident
RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Robert Bewighouse, of Rutherford, died on Sunday, Jan. 22. He was 88.A radio operator in the Navy from 1948 to 1950, Bewighouse was a baseball coach for the farm league in Rutherford. He played softball for K Realty, for a team called the Ageless Wonders.
He worked in the skilled profession of embroidery, and he last worked for All American Emblem in North Bergen, for 25 years, before he retired in 1987. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Regina Council 1688 of Rutherford, and he was a driver for Archbishop Peter Leo Gerety for many years.

Bertha E. Wharton, 98, Longtime Fair Lawn Resident
FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Bertha E. Wharton, a longtime resident Fair Lawn, died on Saturday, Jan.21. She was 98.Born in Withee, Wisconsin, Wharton grew up in Pennington, New Brunswick, and Passaic before moving to Fair Lawn 70 years ago. "She was proudly employed with Curtis Wright as a centerless grinder machine operator during World War II," information from the funeral home noted.
She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Fair Lawn. "An avid gardener, she will be remembered best for her love of family and friends," the funeral home added.

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Doris (Battaglia) Futia, a lifelong resident of Rutherford, died on Friday, Jan. 20. She was 95.Futia and her husband owned and operated Charlie's Tavern in Astoria, Queens, for 40 years. She enjoyed playing cards, poker, bingo and Pokeno.

Werner E. Mayerhoffer, 87, Longtime Maywood Resident
MAYWOOD, N.J. -- Werner E. Mayerhoffer, of Maywood, died on Saturday, Jan. 21. He was 87.Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Mayerhoffer and his wife immigrated to America in 1956. He lived in Maywood for 55 years.
Before he retired in 1996, he was employed by Bliss Electric for over 20 years as a licensed electrician. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, in Maywood.
Mayerhoffer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elisabeth, and his son, Eric. He was predeceased by his brothers, Karl and Wolfgang.

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Marie E. McKenna, of Bergenfield, died on Jan. 20. She was 88."(McKenna's) family truly was her pride and joy," information from the funeral home noted.
