Don Bosco Basketball Team Loses State Final, After Win On Thursday RAMSEY, N.J. -- Don Bosco Prep beat Seton Hall Prep handily on Thursday night, which The Record called its biggest victory in over 40 years. In the North Non-Public A boys basketball tournament final, the Ironmen won 73-53, The Record reported. "I knew once Omar (Mostafa) hit the first three shots that it was going to be a great game from us," said sophomore forward Marcellus Earlington. Northern Valley Toastmasters Win Local Speech Contest HAWORTH, N.J. -- Two local members of the Valley Toastmasters won awards at their local club level, on Monday, March 7.Toastmasters is a club to improve public speaking and leadership skills -- and improve confidence, Maxine Kaufman added. She's the club's secretary. Winners can move on to contests at the area, division and district levels. Ridgefield High Senior Selected As Distinguished Young Woman RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Kendell Carlson, a senior at Ridgefield High School, was recently chosen by state Distinguished Young Women officials to represent the state in the national contest, in June, as reported on Ridgefield HamletHub. Distinguished Young Women -- formerly known as the America's Junior Miss competition -- is a scholarship program that was founded in 1958. Norwalk School Board Approves Two Years Of Calendars NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Board of Education has approved school district calendars for both 2016-17 and 2017-18. This is the first time Norwalk Public Schools has confirmed two school-year calendars at once. The district notes that doing so will give families and community organizations a head start on planning. These calendars are designed to increase instruction time, as part of the district's goal to "Raise the Bar & Close the Gap" -- especially in the months before key state tests in the spring. Wilton's Old Highway Road Will Be Closed Monday For Utility Work WILTON, Conn. -- On Monday March 14, Old Highway Road will be closed to through traffic between Powder Horn Hill Road and Sharp Hill Road, due to utility work in the area. This road closure will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. -- so will not affect the morning school bus commute. Old Highway Road will reopen at approximately 2 p.m., to facilitate the afternoon school bus drop-offs, but it will re-close at 4 p.m., until the job's completed. The work is anticipated to be done about 6 p.m. Make your travel plans with this in mind.

Passaic Principal Warns Parents About Possible Bed Bug Problem PASSAIC, N.J. -- Diana Kattak, principal of Passaic's Mario J. Drago School No. 3, is warning of two suspected cases of bed bugs at the school. "Bed bugs are a nuisance, but they are not known to cause or spread disease," Kattak said. "Bed bugs are often unknowingly brought into the school by building occupants or visitors." Northern Valley Old Tappan Girls Basketball Team Returns To Group 3 Final FRANKLIN LAKES — The Northern Valley Old Tappan girls basketball team will be fighting to win the Group 3 finals on Sunday, March 13, after a close win against Voorhees on Wednesday, according to The Record. The Golden Knights beat the Vikings 56-53. The Old Tappan team will now face Middletown South -- which beat Old Tappan last year in the title match -- at the Toms River Pine Belt Arena, according to The Record. Todd J. Rozsa, 46, Hasbrouck Heights Resident HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. -- Todd J. Rozsa -- a Hasbrouck Heights resident, formerly of North Bergen -- died on Thursday, March 10. He was 46. Born in Jersey City, Rozsa was a truck driver for DNC in Bayonne and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 560. He was an avid bowler.
