Richard Shemonoski, 74, Lifelong Hastings-on-Hudson Resident
HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Richard Shemonoski, a lifelong resident of Hastings-on-Hudson, died on Sunday, March 6. He was 74.
Born in New York City, Shemonoski is survived by his wife, Marilyn Shemonoski; children Tracey Fisher, Keith Shemonoski and Kevin Shemonoski; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Helen Shemonoski, and his sister, Dianne Dean.
Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 11, at Hastings Funeral Home, 15 Spring St., in Hastings-on-Hudson, with the funeral at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be private. …
Rita Teresa Bartko, 90, Yonkers Resident
YONKERS, N.Y. -- Carol (Moen) Bernacchia, of Yonkers, died on Monday, March 7. She was 90.
Born in Yonkers, Bernacchia graduated from both Sacred Heart Grade School and Sacred Heart High School. She was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, a member of its alter society, taught instruction classes with the C.C.D. program and did volunteer work in the school office.
Bernacchia was also a member of the board of directors at the Woman's Institute, and served as both vice-president and president of the Morsemere Garden Club, and also served as its historian.

TEANECK, N.J. -- Mary P. Neville -- a resident of Cumming, Georgia, formerly of Teaneck, Hackensack and Ho-Ho-Kus -- died on Sunday, March 6. She was 91.
When Neville attended Teaneck High School, she was the recipient of numerous academic and track awards. "She continued her education, studying mathematics until she found the calling of her life raising her children and her family," according to information from the funeral home.

Born in the Bronx, Grassi was an elementary school art teacher for the Mount Vernon Public Schools for over 20 years.

RYE, N.Y. -- William Gerard Klein, of Rye, died on Sunday, March 6. He was 89.
Born in New York City, Klein was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. After the war, he joined the Naval Reserves, earning top-secret clearance and retiring as a lieutenant commander.

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. -- Gerard "Jerry" A. Hackel, of Hasbrouck Heights, died on Monday, March 7. He was 87.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Hackel was a member of the William J. Hocking American Legion Post 91, in Wharton. Before he retired, he was a police mechanic for the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights. He was a dedicated and exempt member of the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department, where he served as a former captain for Engine Company 2 and a former captain of the Ambulance Corps.
