Runners Raise $6,000 For Habitat Bergen In Sunday's NYC Half Marathon
RIVER EDGE, N.J. -- Habitat Bergen's team for the upcoming New York City half marathon has raised $6,335. The race is bright and early on Sunday, March 20.
Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County has five runners on its team: Josh S., Nina C., Dennis M., Brian K. and Brian S.
Habitat got its five slots through the Official Charity Partner program of the United Airlines NYC Half: the race is, generally, sold out. Every participant through this program had to raise at least $1,000 for his charity.

March Event Will Celebrate Volunteers Across Bergen County
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Volunteers are at the heart of any community.
To honor them and bring recognition to the work they do, the Bergen Volunteer Center will salute volunteers from all parts of the county at its annual Celebrate Volunteers event Wednesday, March 30.
"This event is a great way for organizations to honor their volunteers," said Lynne Algrant, the center’s CEO. "Hundreds of volunteers will be commended for their dedication, time and talent, and, at the same time, agencies save themselves the expense of hosting a separate event."

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Lucille A. Dykeman, of Poughkeepsie, died on Sunday, March 13. She was 97.Born in Poughkeepsie, Dykeman worked for the Hudson River Psychiatric Center as a dining room attendant. Prior to that, she owned The Diner in Stanfordville.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, the Miraculous Medal Society and for many years was a member of CSEA. She was a very devout Catholic.

David M. Thomas, 62, Beacon Resident
BEACON, N.Y. -- David M. Thomas, of Beacon, died on Thursday, March 10. He was 62. Born in Beacon, Thomas was a stocker for Walmart, in Fishkill. He was a member of St. Joachim's Church, in Beacon.
He is survived by his wife, Stella; mother Frances Brown of Beacon; children Jason Thomas of Cold Spring and Keith Thomas of Ghent; stepson William Palmateer of Beacon; sister Luann Brown of Beacon; and several nieces and nephews.
Thomas was predeceased by his father, Lewis Frances Brown.
