Gertrude Silverman, 99, Deerfield Beach Resident
SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- Gertrude Silverman, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, died on Saturday, March 12. She was 99.
Silverman was born in Poland.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, at Beth Moses Cemetery, 1500 Wellwood Ave., in West Babylon, with Rabbi Brian Lieken officiating. Hellman Memorial Chapels, in Spring Valley, is assisting with arrangements.
Nettie (Schiller) Janis, 99, Former Norwalk Resident
NORWALK, Conn. -- Nettie (Schiller) Janis -- an Orange resident, formerly a longtime resident of Norwalk -- died on Saturday, March 12. She was 99.
Born in Brooklyn, Janis and her new husband moved to Norwalk to start their family. She worked for the Norwalk Community College, was a longtime member of Temple Beth El and volunteered in several charitable organizations.

Joaquim Teixeira, 94, Longtime Bridgeport Resident
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Longtime Bridgeport resident Joaquim Teixeira died on Sunday, March 13. He was 94. Born in Portugal, Teixeira was a Bridgeport resident for over 50 years. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Vasco DaGama.
He was survived by his children, Lucilia Teixeira, Hermina Farrington, Maria Llinas, Otilia Alves, Celeste Gardner and Eliseu Teixeira; sisters Luisa Vaz and Maria Fernandes; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ridgefield Officers Commended For Recent Actions
RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Ridgefield Police Department commended six Ridgefield officers on Thursday, March 10, for their actions in a January incident.
The department awarded officers Dan Gjodesen, Dave Samoskevich, Brian Shimko, Jorge Romero and Lou Caba, and Lt. Shawn Platt, its Unit Citation Award at the recent Police Commission meeting.
