Palisades Park Library Has Free Concert PALISADES PARK, N.J. -- The Palisades Public Library will present "Snowing Map: Singing the Poetry of Yoon Dongju" on Tuesday, March 29.The event is free. Yoon Dongju was a Korean poet who was arrested by the Japanese as a "thought criminal" and was sentenced to prison for having participated in the Korean independence movement. He died in prison in 1945, at the age of 27, before any of his poetry was published. After his death, a collection of his poems was published as "The Heavens and the Wind and the Stars and Poetry," and he became widely noted. The event…

Daniel John Hannigan, 94, Longtime Wappingers Falls Resident WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Daniel John Hannigan, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, died on Thursday, March 24. He was 94. A Navy veteran of World War II, Hannigan graduated from Cornell University in 1950 and went on to own and operate a successful veterinary practice in Wappingers Falls for 35 years. He was active in politics, serving as a Dutchess County legislator from 1972 to 1980. He was minority leader for four years and chairman for two. While in the legislature, he was instrumental in the development of Bowdoin Park, as well as working to put bike paths throughout the county. …

Garfield Schools Make Paying For Lunch Simpler GARFIELD, N.J. -- Garfield's public schools have launched an online payment program for student lunches aimed to make the process easier. The schools have used a computerized point system to pay for lunches, and parents had to send in a coupon with payment. Now parents can make the payments -- or prepay -- online here. Students can still pay with cash as well. If not paying with cash, students will have a little extra time to eat and the lost-lunch-money problem can be eliminated. Israeli Students Stage Game Show For Rockleigh Residents ROCKLEIGH, N.J. -- Israeli students from Nahariya, in northern Israel, visited Jewish Home Assisted Living in River Vale this week, staging a game of Israel Jeopardy for the residents and joining them for an all-American lunch.
