Free Flora: Westport Celebrates Arbor Day With Saplings WESTPORT, Conn. — Calling all tree huggers: Westport will celebrate Arbor Day in style, handing out free saplings to residents who’d like a little more flora dotting their lawns. Just show up between 2 and 5 p.m. at Town Hall on April 25 and go home with a tree sapling and the planting instructions to get you started. This is the fourth year the Westport Tree Board has given away trees on a first come, first serve basis. The seedlings are donated by Eversource Energy. On Green Day, Saturday, April 29, the Tree Board will be at the Lillian Wadsworth Arboretum for a second sapling giveaway. …

30 Years Later: Bridgeport To Remember L'Ambiance Plaza Victims Monday BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Families along with city and union officials will mark the 30th anniversary of the L’Ambiance Plaza collapse with thoughts and prayers outside City Hall and the laying of a wreath at the Golden Hill Street memorial to the 28 victims of the tragedy. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at City Hall, 45 Lyon Terrace. L'Ambiance Plaza was a 16-story residential project under construction at the corner of Washington Avenue and Coleman Street. On April 23, 1987, 28 workers were crushed to death and others were injured at the site due to faulty lift-slab construction. …
