Fairfield Police: Thief Couldn't Find Tires, Stole Car Instead FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A New Haven man who couldn’t find the tires he wanted to steal from a Fairfield car dealership decided to drive away with a new car, leading to his arrest Friday, police said. Ismael Mercado, 30, of Ann Street, was charged with first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, police said. He was arrested around 10:30 a.m. while in court on another matter. The arrest stems from a February 2016 incident at the Mercedes Benz dealership on Commerce Drive. Shelton Police: Man Grabbed Children By Necks, Charged With Strangulation SHELTON, Conn. — A Shelton man faces strangulation charges after two children said he grabbed them by their necks last week, police said. Robert Hoha Jr., 39, was arrested July 21 and charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, two counts of strangulation, two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of third-degree assault, police said. Police: Unlocked $51,000 Car Goes Missing In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Thieves made off with a $51,000 car that was left unlocked with the keys inside on Riverside Drive, police said. The victim told police the 2015 Mercedes C300 was stolen between 11:30 p.m. July 23 and 8 a.m. July 24. Fairfield Police: Teen Stole Truck Left Running Outside Convenience Store FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A homeless teen has been arrested for stealing a truck left running outside a convenience store while the owner ran in for a cup of coffee in April, police said. Fairfield Police: Blood Stains Link Bridgeport Man To 2016 Burglary FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was held on $50,000 bond after Fairfield police used DNA evidence to link him to a November 2016 burglary, police said. Geraldo Garcia, 52, of Clinton Avenue, was charged with third-degree burglary Friday while he was in court on another matter, police said. Officers called to a suspected burglary at a Kings Highway East home found blood that matched Garcia’s on the rear door that had been damaged in the break-in, police said.
