Cops: Shelton Man Told Neighbor He Set Home Ablaze On Easter SHELTON, Conn. — A 51-year-old Shelton man was charged with setting a house on fire Sunday after he bragged about it to a neighbor, police said. Michael Karolkowski was charged with first-degree arson, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree breach of peach and interfering with an officer, police said. Police: Armed Newtown Man Hits Trees, Flips Car In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A gun-toting Newtown man who hit several trees before flipping his car on its side early Saturday faces drunken driving charges, police said. David Guerra, 35, of Glen Road, was driving eastbound on Walls Drive around midnight when he veered off the northside shoulder of the road, hitting the trees and coming to rest on the driver’s side, police said. Cops: Fairfield Man Charged In Supermarket Scanner Scam FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield man was arrested Thursday when he left the Villa Avenue Stop & Shop without paying for more than half of the merchandise in his cart, police said. Officers said Miguel Alvarez, 32, or Brentwood Avenue, used a personal scanner while he was shopping, but neglected to scan $198.59 in items he placed in his cart. He did pay for $120 at a checkout counter, police said. Alvarez told officers the scanner must have malfunctioned, but he was charged with sixth-degree larceny, police said. He was released on a promise to appear in court on April 25.
