David Guerra, 35, of Glen Road, was driving eastbound on Walls Drive around midnight when he veered off the northside shoulder of the road, hitting the trees and coming to rest on the driver’s side, police said. Cops: Fairfield Man Charged In Supermarket Scanner Scam FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield man was arrested Thursday when he left the Villa Avenue Stop & Shop without paying for more than half of the merchandise in his cart, police said. Officers said Miguel Alvarez, 32, or Brentwood Avenue, used a personal scanner while he was shopping, but neglected to scan $198.59 in items he placed in his cart. He did pay for $120 at a checkout counter, police said. Alvarez told officers the scanner must have malfunctioned, but he was charged with sixth-degree larceny, police said. He was released on a promise to appear in court on April 25.
