Museum Displays 1800s Cookbook Written By Ridgewood Native
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- The Schoolhouse Museum, in Ridgewood, has a new exhibit, "Farm and Home," featuring artifacts and information about food preparation and cooking in the 18th and 19th centuries.
As of April 28th, it will have been 220 years ago that Amelia Simmons published "American Cookery," the first cookbook written by an American. Prior to that, colonists used British cookbooks -- which lacked information on how to use foods, spices and other ingredients found in America.

Giovanni Ciurciu, 94, Longtime Fair Lawn Resident
FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Giovanni Ciurciu, of Fair Lawn, died on Wednesday, April 20. He was 94.
Born and raised in Sicily, Ciurciu immigrated to the U.S. in 1969. He lived in Paterson before moving to Fair Lawn 25 years ago. He was a former parishioner of St. Anthony Church in Paterson. "An avid gardener, always cultivating his tomatoes, he enjoyed cooking and was always busy tending to what needed fixing," information from the funeral home noted.

Elma Pruitt, 73, Teaneck Resident
TEANECK, N.J. -- Elma Pruitt, of Teaneck, died on Sunday, April 17. He was 73.
Born in Roba, Alabama, Pruitt was one of nine children. He worked for the City of Hackensack, as a foreman for the Department of Sewers. "He was a good man, that loved to fish and go on vacation," information from the funeral home noted. "He always put his family first."

Hackensack High School Alumnae Participate In Ridgewood Film Fest
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Two Hackensack High School alumni participated in the Ridgewood Guild Film Festival on Wednesday, April 20. The festival ran from Tuesday to Thursday.Amanda Kaminsky, of Hackensack, wrote, directed, edited, produced and acted in the short film "In Too Deep," for the Montclair University Film Studies Program. Maywood's Samantha Pernetti starred in that 26-minute horror short, shot entirely at the now-defunct Oritani Field Club, in Hackensack.
The film festival's opening night was at the Ridgewood Public Library, and its final two nights were at Bow Tie Cinemas. …
