Nation's Largest Offshore Wind Project Breaks Ground In NY On Way To Powering 600K Homes Work on the nation’s largest offshore wind project is officially underway in New York. On Long Island, local and state leaders attended a ceremonial groundbreaking at the Boys and Girls Club of Bellport on Wednesday, July 17, for Sunrise Wind, a 924-megawatt project expected to produce enough energy to power 600,000 homes. Murder Of Convenience Store Clerk In Capital Region Remains Mystery 31 Years On Three decades after Betty Conley was shot and killed while working at a convenience store in the region, her killer has yet to face justice. The Saratoga County murder happened in the town of Charlton, at the Xtra Mart on State Route 67, at around 3 a.m. on July 8, 1993. Sheriff’s officials said the 37-year-old Conley was working an overnight shift when someone shot her once in the head, killing her. Fatal Crash: 31-Year-Old ID'd As Victim On East Patchogue Roadway A 31-year-old was killed in a crash on Long Island. The incident happened in East Patchogue, on Americus Avenue south of Brookhaven Avenue, at around 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18. Suffolk County Police said the man, Noe Moran Contreras, of East Patchogue, was operating a dirt bike when he lost control and struck a pole. He was taken by ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. Investigators impounded the bike for a safety check. Orange County resident Enoch Lowe, age 25, of Wallkill, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in Orange County Court on Thursday, July 18, following convictions for murder and related charges in the death of Jeffrey Harris. Not So Fast: Wanted Fisherman Tries Fleeing From Capital Region Cops In Rideshare, Police Say In hindsight, it probably wasn’t the most efficient means of escape. A Greene County fisherman found himself in handcuffs after he allegedly attempted to flee from police in a rideshare vehicle. The incident happened Tuesday, July 2, along Catskill Creek in the town of Durham.  Officers with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) spotted a man and woman fishing and asked for their fishing licenses. According to the agency, the man did not have an ID and gave them the name and birthdate of someone else with an active fishing license.  A check of his motorcycle’s …
