Nichols Fire Does Cold-Water Rescue Training At Trumbull's Pinewood Lake TRUMBULL, Conn. -- Members of the Nichols Fire Department trained Saturday at Pinewood Lake to hone their cold-water rescue techniques. Firefighters went over safety procedures and hand signals and inspected the gear before going into the lake. They also went over the operation of a rescue sled. Members took turns going into the icy water in cold -water suits to rescue another in "distress."

Greenwich Skatepark Prepares For Spring Opening GREENWICH, Conn. -- The Greenwich Skatepark will open Saturday, March 12, weather permitting.  The park will open only on weekends from noon to 5 p.m. until its full schedule begins March 28. The Den For Grieving Kids Offers Greenwich Teen Support Group GREENWICH, Conn. -- The Den for Grieving Kids has launched a new support group for kids between the ages of 13-18 coping with the death of a parent, family member or friend. The North Salem family rate is $575 if registering between April 1 and May 31, and $625 beginning June 1.  The rate for adults 16 and older is $375 between April 1 and May 31, or $425 starting on June 1.  For North Salem children between ages 2 and 15, the fee is $300, or $350 starting June 1.  The senior rate for ages 62 and older is $100. Darien Senior Citizens May Be Eligible For Tax Relief DARIEN, Conn. -- Senior citizens may be eligible for tax credits, according to Darien Assessor Anthony Homicki. The real estate property tax credit may come under the circuit breaker state program, town program or elderly tax deferral. Any homeowner 65 and older reaching the income limits is encouraged to come to the assessor's office and apply by May 16. Westport Man Charged With Throwing Cup Of Coffee At Driver WESTPORT, Conn. -- A Westport man was arrested for allegedly throwing a cup of coffee at a driver during an alleged road rage incident, according to ctpost.com. Paul Wichmann, 56, of Gonczy Road, was charged with throwing objects at a motor vehicle and second-degree breach of peace for the alleged altercation Jan. 15 on Marsh Hill Road in Orange, ctpost.com reported.  The other driver was not injured, said ctpost.com.
