Haakon Worum, 92, Of Valley Cottage
VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. -- Haakon Worum, a resident of Valley Cottage, died Monday, Jan.18. He was 92.Worum owned and operated a small carpentry business called Norsway Construction and retired in 1988. Haakon remained fiercely loyal to his two countries, Norway and the USA.
He is survived by two children, Gordon and Nan of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Ellen and Rick of Valley Cottage, five grandchildren and two sisters who remain in Norway.
He was predeceased by his wife Judith and two brothers.

Eugene R. Mondou, 82, Of Poughkeepsie
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Eugene R. Mondou, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday, Jan. 13. He was 82.He was born in Acushnet, Mass. , on Feb. 7, 1933, to Eugene and Elsie Bouley Mondou.
Mondou was employed at IBM in East Fishkill as a chemist. He was a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts University in North Dartmouth, Mass., and received his masters degree at the University of Iowa. He served in the Navy as a Seabee from 1952 to 1956.

Kenneth William Dougherty, 94, Of Hawthorne
HAWTHORN, N.J. – Kenneth William Dougherty, a resident of Hawthorne, died Thursday, Jan. 14. He was 94.
A World War II veteran with the U.S. Merchant Marine, he was a boiler engineer with both the Merchant Marine, the United Fruit Company, serving on the SS Fra Berlanga, and also with Harmon Chemical in North Haledon for many years.
He is survived by his wife Mildred and his daughter Keli Dougherty of Waldwick. He also is survived by his sister-in-law Audrey Frank of Gainesville Fla., and several nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Adele, and a sister.

Howard F. Blohm, Of Emerson
EMERSON, N.J. -- Howard F. Blohm, a resident of Emerson, died Thursday, January 14. He served valiantly during World War II on the USS LST-7 naval ship.
He is survived by his grandchildren Kyle, Kristen, Hailee Blohm, Samantha, Lauren, and Kevin. In addition, he is survived by his children Craig of Morris Plains, Leslie of Flemington and Eileen Waddell of Salisbury, Md.
He was predeceased of his wife Patricia Diane Blohm.
Memorial visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Volk Leber Funeral Home 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell. Funeral service will commence at 7 p.m.

WYCKOFF, N.J. – Betty L. Michel, a longtime resident of Wyckoff, died Wednesday, Jan. 13. She was 90.
Michel was an active member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church for more than 50 years.
She is survived by her husband Fred Michel; her children Paul Michel, Carole and her husband George Bechtold and Mark and his wife Debra Michel. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Lisa, Kevin, Julie and Genie.

MONTVALE, N.J. -- Ellen Winters, a resident of Montvale and formerly of Paramus, died Thursday, Jan. 14. She was 72.Before retiring, Winters worked for Assurance Health Care as a nurse. She was a parishioner of the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River.

Prior to her retirement, she served on the Oakland First Aid Squad, was a member of the ECCR Auxiliary, worked for the Ramapo/Indian Hills Regional Board of Education and was a secretary for Indian Hills High School. Ruitenberg was a member of Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff.

FAIR LAWN, N.J. – Loretta G. Farah, a resident of Fair Lawn, died Wednesday, Jan. 13. She was 91.
Farah was a restaurateur, managing several establishments, including Christy’s Townhouse in West Nyack, N.Y., and the Showcase in Cresskill. She later became a real estate broker in northern New Jersey. She also was active throughout her early married years in the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company in Ridgewood. TRUMBULL, Conn. -- During the holiday season, Trumbull High School freshman Cassandra Anelante collected 250 toys for children in need.Cassandra, 14, collected the new, unwrapped toys from friends, family and classmates. Once collected, these toys get presented to children who are clients of The Center for Family Justice, a domestic violence and sexual assault crisis and prevention program that serves Trumbull, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Easton, Monroe and Stratford.
