DEMAREST, N.J. -- A shopping night fundraiser to benefit a Demarest school takes place at Tice’s Corner in Woodcliff Lake on Tuesday, May 17Academy of the Holy Angels is hosting a mother/daughter/sister/friend shopping night at South Moon Under. The event runs from 6-9 p.m. Each purchase receives a 10 percent discount plus an additional 10 percent will be donated back to the Parent’s Athletic Association. GREENWICH, Conn. -- A full slate of films, including opening and closing night offerings, have been announced by the Greenwich International Film Festival, which will run from June 9 to 12. SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Happy birthday to Suffern's Jay Beckenstein.Saxophone player and smooth jazz artist Beckenstein was born May 14, 1951 and turns 65 on Saturday. He formed the jazz fusion group Spyro Gyra and launched BearTracks Studios in Suffern. He started playing saxophone at the age of seven and has played solo on several records. Beckenstein's his first solo album, Eye Contact, was number 23 on the Top Contemporary Jazz Albums.

New Website Launched By Carlstadt Police
CARLSTADT, N.J. -- A new website is up and running for the police department in Carlstadt.Residents can use the site to put vehicles on the Overnight Parking list, download and print forms, find upcoming events and learn a brief history and understanding of the police department. The Borough of Carlstadt was founded in June of 1894. Charles Schmidt was the first police chief appointed by the borough in 1907. The department is led by Chief Thomas Nielsen. HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Happy birthday to Hyde Park's John Besh.Chef, TV personality, restaurateur and author Besh was born in Mississippi on May 14, 1968. He turns 48 on Saturday. He joined the Marines after high school and following active duty in the Gulf War, became a star student at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. Besh went on to win Chef of the Year many times and was a contestant, judge and host on numerous cooking challenge shows. He owns a dozen restaurants in New Orleans and Texas and has written five cookbooks.

Paramus OKs Affordable Housing Plan
PARAMUS, N.J. -- A four hour special meeting on Monday resulted in the Paramus Mayor and Council passing an ordinance to plan for affordable housing, reports northjersey.com.The state's mandate has yet to be determined but the ordinance requires a 10 percent set-aside or payments in lieu of construction, reports northjersey.com. Paula Garber, owner of LIFELINE Cat Behavior Solutions, will join the Jackson Galaxy Foundation to be a part of its national Cat Pawsitive initiative.
