Ossining, Briarcliff Celebrate International Make Music Day
OSSINING, N.Y. -- Musicians filled the air in Ossining and Briarcliff on June 21, as the first international Make Music Day was celebrated in Westchester County. More than a dozen artists in Ossining and Briarcliff joined over 700 cities around the world in an international celebration of song. “Our goal is to build up Westchester with the spirit of music and to bring music into the lives of all who live here,” said Mike Risko of Ossining, who launched the event. Weather Service: North Jersey Tornado Watch Doesn't Mean One Is Coming
A tornado watch was in effect for five North Jersey counties -- including Bergen and Passaic -- until 10 p.m. Friday. A watch merely means that conditions exist for a potential tornado. It is not considered a warning. However, the National Weather Service advises that citizens remain alert to the possibility of a warning during a watch. "Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur," the service says. "The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states." Rutherford Officials Postpone Fireworks
RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Friday fireworks were supposed to signal the start of the July 4th holiday weekend in Rutherford, but Mother Nature has other plans. Rutherford’s annual fireworks display is canceled Friday, July 1 and is rescheduled Saturday due to the threat of thunder showers. Activities start at Memorial Field at 7 p.m. with music and food vendors, followed by the 9:15 p.m. fireworks display.
