Overturned Milk Tanker Closes Capital Region Highway A Capital Region highway remained shut down in both directions Monday afternoon, Sept. 19, due to an overturned milk tanker, authorities said. Multiple fire and rescue agencies in Rensselaer County responded to reports of a rolled tractor trailer on Highway 346 southeast of Hoosick, near the Vermont state line. Fire crews from Hoosick, Petersurgh, and Pownal, Vermont were on scene, according to a Facebook post from the Hoosick Fire Department. Man Points Loaded Gun At 2 Women Inside Home In Capital Region, Police Say A man is facing charges after allegedly pointing a loaded handgun at two women during an altercation at a home in the region. Albany police responded to an apartment complex near Park Avenue and Quail Street at around noon on Sunday, Sept. 18, after getting reports of a man inside with a gun. Westchester Man Among 5 Nabbed After Traffic Stop Turns Up Stolen Debit Cards, Forged Checks What began as a traffic stop in the region ended with five people behind bars on numerous weapons and stolen property charges, authorities said. State police in Orange County first spotted the suspects’ vehicle at around 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, as it drove on Highway 84 in the town of Newburgh. Troopers observed the 2015 BMW-328i violating numerous vehicle and traffic laws. The car also had fraudulent Georgia temporary plates, according to police. Woman Assaults Workers, Bites Officers After Being Asked To Leave CT Restaurant, Police Say A Connecticut woman is accused of assaulting several employees and police officers after being asked to leave a restaurant. Police in New Haven County were called shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, with reports that a customer had assaulted employees at Milford’s Stonebridge Restaurant, located on Daniel Street. 49-Year-Old Charged With Rape After Joint Investigation In Region A 49-year-old man from the region is behind bars, accused of rape. Sullivan County resident Hummler Colas, of the town of Thompson, was arrested following a joint investigation by New York State Police and Sullivan County Child Protective Services. Police did not specify the age of the alleged victim or the relationship between the two. Colas was charged with third-degree rape and criminal sex act, both felonies, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. Brand-New Poll Reveals Shift In NYers' Consumer Sentiment New Yorkers are feeling more optimistic about the economy, according to a new Siena College poll released Wednesday, Sept. 14. The New York State Index of Consumer Sentiment was up 9.1 points to 70.8 in the third quarter of 2022, the poll found. That’s 12.6 points above the nation’s Index of 58.2. Know Him? Suspect Caught On Video Attempting Break-In At Long Island Restaurant Police are asking for help identifying a suspect caught on video breaking into a Long Island business. The break-in occurred Friday, June 24, in Wantagh, at Margaritas Cafe on Wantagh Avenue, Nassau County Police said.
