Marta Peters, 102, Hasbrouck Heights Resident
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. — Marta Peters (nee Keller) of Hasbrouck Heights died Monday, Dec. 7. She was 102. She was born in Switzerland, attended nursing school and became a maternity nurse there. She came to the U.S. as a nanny in 1939. She is predeceased by her husband, Alfred Peters, who died January 6, 1952. She worked for Curtiss-Wright Corp. in Wood-Ridge and Bendix Corp. in Teterboro, putting three children through college before retiring in 1978. Portion Of Rivervale Road In River Vale Closing For Three Months
RIVERVALE, N.J. — Rivervale Road from Old Tappan Road to Piermont Avenue has been closed to all traffic. The road will remain closed 24/7 for approximately three months while Rivervale Road undergoes construction. Follow detours and plan alternate routes. PARK RIDGE, N.J. — Joseph J. Di Giacco of Park Ridge died on Sunday, Dec. 6. He was 68. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a grocery manager for A&P for 10 years. He also was a parishioner of St. Andrew R. C. Church. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Priscilla (nee De Christofaro); daughter Melissa Hoffmann and her husband Daniel; brother Peter; grandson Anthony J. Hoffmann and many nieces and nephews. RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Doris M. Sansone (nee Zoon) of Rutherford died Dec. 8. She was 87. Formerly of Carlstadt, she was born in Wallington, and was a switchboard operator with NJ Bell in Rutherford for many years. A dancer, she was a longtime member of Vic's Hoofers of Carlstadt. She is survived by her children Marguerite, Laurie and Thomas, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. NYC Tree Counting Project Gets Boost From Ridgewood Civic Group
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Every 10 years New York City counts its tree, and the Ridgewood Property Owners and Civic Association dd its part this year. Volunteers mapped 843 blocks and 5,274 trees. Many of the volunteers continued as independent mappers, counting trees on their own. The 10-year tree count is undertaken and completed by the New York City Parks Department.
