Ridgefield Math Teacher Writes Book On Fulbright Year In Hungary RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — A Fulbright scholar and Ridgefield math teacher who spent a year teaching abroad has written a book chronicling her experiences, reports the ridgefieldpress.com. Ridgefield High School mathematics teacher Monica Housen co-wrote a book entitled “Our International Education: Stories of Living, Teaching, and Parenting Abroad,” says the Press. Faster Pitching Is Focus Of Northern Valley Sports Camp In Closter CLOSTER, N.J. — Increase your pitching speed in January at the 11th Annual Velocity Development Program at Northern Valley Sports Academy in Closter. The six-week camp begins Jan. 5 and usually sells out. Reservations are required. Volunteer Center Of Bergen Offers Mentor Training In Hackensack HACKENSACK, N.J. — Adult volunteers are needed to serve as mentors to children, ages 5-18, through the Bergen Volunteer Center’s Mentoring Youth program in Hackensack. The next three-week Mentoring Youth training program begins Wednesday, Jan. 27. New Milford Senior Awarded $50K Scholarship NEW MILFORD, N.J. — A $50,000 scholarship was awarded to a New Milford High School senior to pursue studies in the visual arts. Jillian Garcia received the Chairman’s Merit Award Scholarship to the School of Visual Arts, among the largest scholarships that the school awards. The other largest is the Rhodes Merit Scholarship. The award is based on a student’s academic records and portfolio accomplishments. Students are able to renew the scholarship each year, contingent upon being enrolled full time and maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Click here for more information.
