Actually, the master carpenter/plumber/electrician started humbly with a table he set up in his sister’s dry goods store next door. Clough didn’t have a job, and he wanted to provide for his family. “He thought, 'Well, this might work,'” said his daughter-in-law, Evelyn Clough. And work it did. Woman, 86, Dies After Being Struck By A Car In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — An 86-year-old woman who was struck by a car while crossing Black Rock Turnpike on Tuesday night died of her injuries early Wednesday, Fairfield police said. Patricia Barger, of Fairfield, was crossing the road from west to east near Katonah Drive around 7:45 p.m. when she was hit by a northbound car driven by Sharon Ranney, 63, police said.  Barger was not crossing in a crosswalk, and there is no indication that speed played a factor in the accident, police said. She died at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, police said. The incident is under investigation.

Man Stole $146 In Energy Drinks From Westport Stop & Shop, Police Say WESTPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was charged with stealing 14 packs of energy drinks from Stop & Shop, police said. A store security officer detained Louis Bottone, 23, of Funston Street, around 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, after he watched him place the energy drinks, valued at $146, in a shopping bag and leave the store without paying, police said. Bottone was charged with sixth-degree larceny and held on $500. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 28, police said.
