Knitting Groups 'Yarn Bomb' Fairfield Library With Free Scarves, Mittens FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Some lucky passersby at the Fairfield Public Library are a little warmer today, thanks to an inventive "yarn bombing" by two local knitting groups. On Sunday, members of the Sewing Salon and the Fairfield Woods Branch Library’s Purls of Wisdom Knitting Group tied 215 homemade scarves, two hats and six pairs of mittens on signs, benches and trees outside the downtown library. Fairfield Police: Savvy Sleuthing Leads To Car Theft Suspect FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was arrested in court Friday after some diligent detective work showed he stole a car in Fairfield in October, police said. Roman Nieves, 37, of Sherwood Avenue, was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny in the Oct. 19 incident, police said. He was in court Friday on another matter and was held on $50,000 bond for the Fairfield case, police said. Fairfield Teen Charged In Overnight Assault Outside Downtown Bar FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield teen was arrested on assault charges after a police officer had to stop him from kicking a young man in the face outside a popular downtown bar early Saturday, police said. Bridgeport Man Arrested In Condom Theft In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Bridgeport man with a lengthy criminal record was arrested Monday after police say he stole nearly $300 in condoms and health and beauty items from the Villa Avenue Stop & Shop. Police said Hernan Carlos Aponte, 28, of Dewey Street, shoved the items, valued at $295, into a blue tote bag and passed the registers without paying for the merchandise shortly before 11 a.m. Aponte, who police said has a history of crime, was released on $100 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 9.

Waterbury Man Arrested On Nine Forgery Charges In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Waterbury man faces nine counts of forgery after he tried to deposit a $9,000 check into a fraudulent account at a Post Road Citibank in Fairfield New Year’s Eve, police said.
