Bergen County Mentoring Youth Program Honors Former Mentees
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Mentoring Youth program of the Bergen Volunteer Center recognized two former mentees at the annual Celebrate Volunteers event. Rashell Adams and Gerardo Velazquez were honored for their contributions to the program and the community. These two young adults spoke to an audience of 150 volunteers and community leaders about their experiences and how they have become mentors in their own right after years of support from caring adults who helped guide their paths. The Holy Bible Ranks Among One Of The Most Challenged Books In America
"The Holy Bible" is one the American Library Association's most challenged books, reports the Huffington Post.The bible ranked number six in 2015 out of 275 challenges to books, reports the Huffington Post. Garfield Boys And Girls Club Updates Facilities Through Grant
GARFIELD, N.J. -- Thanks to grant money from Party City, the Garfield Boys & Girls Club has undergone much needed renovations, according to northjersey.com.Since 2012 the club has received $345,000 from Party City and has been able to increase its facility space to accommodate 200 children, according to northjersey.com. Survey Shows New Yorkers Need 80 Percent Of Income For Basics, Taxes
As New Yorkers rush to file their tax returns, they’re feeling the pinch not just from Uncle Sam, but from layers of taxation that drive up New York’s cost of living. A survey by Reclaim New York of 739 respondents statewide showed New Yorkers are saddled with high expenses and have little left over, if anything, for savings. 'Fiddler On The Roof' Coming Up At Our Lady Of Mercy Academy, Park Ridge
PARK RIDGE, N.J. -- Our Lady of Mercy Academy‘s Drama Club, Park Ridge, will perform "Fiddler on the Roof" April 22-24. Performances will be in the school's all purpose room on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at 2 & 7 p.m. Students in grades 5-8 will perform the Broadway classics “To Life (L’Chaim!),” “If I Were A Rich Man,” “Sunrise Sunset,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” and “Tradition.” Tickets are $10 and are available at the door. Mahwah Library Offers Crocheting Classes
MAHWAH, N.J. -- The Mahwah Library is offering crocheting classes starting Monday, May 2. "Crocheting Fun" classes will run for seven weeks and is an intensive program that will teach teens and "tweens" in grades 5-8 how to crochet.
